Dahlia ‘Copper Boy’ is a stunning ball-form dahlia (BA or pompon) that has exploded in popularity since its recent introduction, often described as a “must-grow” for its rich, moody tones and excellent performance. I love its deep color
Key characteristics:
• Form: Ball (perfectly spherical, fully double with involute petals).
• Bloom size: 3–4 inches
• Color: Deep burnt orange-red, rust, bronze, copper, or dark raspberry with subtle chocolate undertones and lighter petal tips/reverses that create a metallic shimmer or hue-shifting effect—often compared to a darker version of Brown Sugar.
• Plant height: Compact, 3–4 feet (great for grow bags).
• Growth habits: Extremely productive and prolific bloomer with strong, sturdy stems; early blooming, excellent vase life, and highly reliable for cut flowers.
• Best uses: Perfect for autumnal, boho, or dramatic bouquets; pairs beautifully with Brown Sugar, Cornel Bronze, and softer tones for depth and contrast.
Hybridized and introduced by Frans H. Sturm from the Netherlands around 2020–2021. It’s of Dutch origin and quickly became a favorite among florists and growers for its unique saturated color and garden performance.
